Road Rarity uses the Department for Transport’s vehicle licensing statistics data files for Great Britain. The current release displayed by the site is 2025.

- Vehicles recorded as licensed for use on public roads.
- SORN
- Vehicles with a Statutory Off Road Notification in the source data.
- Recorded stock
- Licensed plus SORN. This does not include vehicles no longer present in either category.
Models and variants
A model family combines the official descriptions that belong to the same make and model. “Exact variants” are the model descriptions published in the licensing files; they are not a claim about every factory trim or option.
Official naming is not always consistent. Older or unusual vehicles can appear under alternative spellings, a missing model, an importer name or a manufacturer group.
Engine and fuel filters
Engine sizes are presented in the official cubic-capacity bands—normally 100cc intervals. They are bands, not exact engine displacements. Fuel labels follow the source categories. When a model is selected, Road Rarity removes unsupported and negligible outlier combinations from the controls.
History and survival
Whole-model stock history covers 1994–2025 where the source supports it. Filtered fuel, engine and variant histories use the more detailed 2014–2025 tables. “On-road survival” compares the current licensed count with the highest annual recorded stock available; it is a comparison indicator, not a mechanical reliability score.
Age profile
The age chart uses year first registered for vehicles still recorded. Fuel and engine filters do not alter that chart because the official age file does not cross-tabulate those fields.
Suppressed values
Very small figures may be hidden for confidentiality. Road Rarity excludes suppressed values rather than estimating them, so some displayed totals should be read as minimum recorded counts.
